James Bolton

Biography

James has over a decade of experience in litigation, with a focus on high-value clinical negligence disputes. Prior experience also includes product liability, insurance litigation, claims for property damage and consumer finance litigation.

James has particular expertise in clinical negligence claims involving the most severe brain and spinal cord injuries. He is an advocate of resolving disputes early on with mediation in the right cases, to avoid the time and costs associated with formal proceedings. However,  he has also successfully taken a number of cases to trial, which included complex questions of breach of duty, causation and fundamental dishonesty.

Alongside his contentious work, James presents at conferences and publishes articles on recent cases and trial successes.

James enjoys spending time with his family and two young children. Whilst he enjoys travelling to new destinations, he often returns to his native Cape Town to surf and catch up with family and friends. He has an interest in rugby and football (watching, not playing) and enjoys reading classics.
