With the start of a New Year, it is a tradition to make resolutions and plans for the forthcoming year. If this is the year when you and your partner are going to get married, there are lots of exciting times ahead and sometimes the more practical preparations get overlooked.
It is advisable to consider whether you and your partner would like to protect your assets in the form of a Pre-Nuptial Agreement. Whilst this is not likely to be the most romantic job on your “to do” list, it can give you both peace of mind if there are difficulties in your relationship in the future.
A Pre-Nuptial Agreement can deal with largely anything the parties want it to, within reason. It could detail, for example, what would happen to any assets that are inherited in the future, and what would happen to assets that you have respectively brought into the marriage.
Preparation is key when entering into a Pre-Nuptial Agreement, as it is important that the document is entered into at least 28 days prior to your wedding or civil partnership.
Obtaining early advice and preparing the document well in advance is therefore always advisable.
